The Smart Garden Watering website explains how to WATER your Melbourne garden! It calculates the amount of water your garden needs through the year, and help you produce a watering schedule.
How to WATER your garden!
It has always bemused me that I go out and water my garden without a clue what I am really doing. Surely, every plant requires a different amount of water, and at different times. Wouldn't rainfall come into it, and what about the type of soil in my area, questions that are now answered!
This brilliant web site allows you to create a watering schedule based on your area, plants, conditions, watering and schedule.
You start with your post code and it tells you the rainfall in the area (ours is 566mm), then the typical soil type (ours is Clay soil), then you commence building zones. We started with our vegie patch, and found it quite facsinating working through the 4 parts to create each zone including Plants, Conditions, Watering and Schedule.
Gardeners can learn about domestic watering requirements for existing gardens and for planning new gardens. Gardens are modelled by describing descreet areas with plants, irrigation systems and the various conditions affecting watering efficiency.
