Master of Art Curatorship Semester Two Exhibition at Potter Museum of Art

Curatorship students put exhibition practice to work

Admission: Free

The Master of Art Curatorship Semester Two Exhibition brings together four student-led exhibitions at the Potter Museum of Art in Parkville from 11 October to 21 November 2026.

The exhibition is the public outcome of a project-based final-year subject in the University of Melbourne's Master of Art Curatorship. Rather than developing their ideas solely in the classroom, students spend the semester embedded at the Potter, working with the University Art Collection and museum staff to develop and install exhibitions.

Students work in four curatorial teams, gaining practical experience across exhibition development and delivery. The 2026 projects share a broad interest in figuration while approaching the subject through different curatorial perspectives.

Four exhibitions in the Project Gallery

The semester program comprises What Remains; Still Her, Always Her; Between Bodies: The Self in Relation; and Folded Cities: Reshaping Urban Identity in Contemporary Art.

Together, the four exhibitions offer visitors a chance to see how emerging curators interpret a collection and turn research into a public exhibition. The format also demonstrates that curatorial work extends beyond selecting individual artworks, requiring decisions about relationships between objects, interpretation, installation and the way audiences encounter material in a gallery.

Dr Mimi Kelly, Lecturer in Art History and Curatorship, coordinates the subject. Students are supported by a wider Potter Museum project team spanning curatorial work, exhibitions, collections, installation, lighting, academic engagement and audience programs.

The exhibitions are presented in the Potter's Level 1 Project Gallery, a space designed for collaborative and interdisciplinary work, including student projects, research, creative residencies and academic fellowships.

The Master of Art Curatorship Semester Two Exhibition runs from Sunday 11 October to Saturday 21 November 2026. The Project Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm. Admission is free and the space is wheelchair accessible.
