Seven - 0 - Seven Operations Inc. is a small, wholly independent rail heritage group whose mission is:

to provide an environment in which the skills and work practices associated with railway rolling stock, no longer in regular service are preserved and passed on to future generations

to use these skills in the maintenance of steam locomotive R707, and other heritage rolling stock, so that the people of Victoria may continue to experience, and be inspired by, the sight, sound and smell of a steam locomotive at work on the mainline

to support, and to be part of, the tourist industry by providing comfortable family friendly and affordable Vintage Rail Travel day train trips to regional centres in in Victoria.

Newport West Block Rail Workshops

Seven - 0 - Seven Operations has exclusive occupation of Roads 7 and 8 in the Newport West Block Rail Workshops* where we restore and maintain our heritage locomotives and carriages.

* The Newport West Block Yard is a working rail yard and, for safety and security reasons, regulations do not allow unaccompanied visitors to roam the site.

707 Operations welcomes visitors, however because our workshop at 7 and 8 roads of the Newport West Block Workshops is not attended every day, we ask that visits are arranged by prior appointment. The easiest way to arrange a visit is to email.

For many years 707 Operations hired carriages for mainline excursions (mainly from Steamrail Victoria) but following the end of the West Coast Rail franchise between Melbourne and Warrnambool on 30 August 2004, an opportunity arose to purchase our own carriages.

NAM 2336 Ex-Southern Aurora twinette sleeper carriage
LAN 2354 Ex-Southern Aurora roomette sleeper carriage
WANDO Wooden bodied twinette sleeper carriage built in 1923

Upcoming Trips

707 Operations operates heritage train journey's from Melbourne on the mainline rail network in Victoria. Our heritage air-conditioned train is pulled by ex Victorian Railways steam locomotive R707 'City of Melbourne' and our heritage diesel locomotives.
