Beautiful Story | 65th Wedding Anniversary |
My name is Kathy Sutterby. I work as an Activities Co-ordinator with a dynamic, loving and caring Diversional Therapy Team at Shoreham House, Mornington Peninsula.
We have been caring for a beautiful local lady by the name of Mrs Joan Chesla for 2 years. Her husband Henri visits his wife almost every day, from the family home where Henri still resides is "just around the corner".
Henri has over this time become more frail and the result of recent illness, he has been fortunate to be able to come to Shoreham House, this time as one of our first 4 residents in our low care facility, spending some much deserved respite care. Fortunate, by the fact he and Joan can be together every single day and Henri is so familiar with his surroundings, not to mention we - The Diversional Therapy Team - hold and treasure the Husband/Wife Relationship in Aged Care most dearly and fervently. Just because a loved one comes into our care, does not mean the marriage has ended.
Joan and Henri are celebrating their 65th Wedding Anniversary on Wednesday 22nd July - married in 1944.
Joan joined the WAAF and Henri was a pilot in WWII, the couple migrating from England to Australia in 1949. They have one son, Nicholas who is a lawyer and lives in New York.
Joan and Henri will enjoy a wonderful, sumptuous, romantic lunch here at Shoreham, followed by more endulgence with Sponge Cake and Champagne for afternoon tea in the company of ALL our residents, staff and families (always welcomed!).
We are a 30 bed High Care Aged Care Facility and have just opened our new 30 bed Low Care Facility in the last week. Hooooray!!!!
Thanks for reading our story
Kind Regards
Kathy Sutterby - Activities Co-ordinator
