Bird's Basement is a live music venue, the home of Melbourne JAZZ.

Since it opening its doors, Bird's has been the host of music legends. Here music comes first, but the quality of food and service are a close second.

THE NEW YORK JAZZ SCENE NOW LIVES IN MELBOURNE

Birdland New York was known for being Charlie Parker's resident jazz club in the 1950s, and of course, his namesake.

In addition to Bird, the club has been home to many famous Jazz musicians since its opening in 1949. As Alan Morrison, the long-time editor of Ebony magazine put it, 'Birdland was both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed'.

Melbourne is the first city to host a Birdland venture outside New York city. Bird's Basement is already the stage of past, present, and future jazz legends.

INTIMATE CONCERTS & DINING

Bird's Basement is tucked away in Singers Lane near the Flagstaff Gardens - nestled below The Jazz Corner Hotel, and nearby Brother Thomas cafe on William Street. This purpose built jazz basement has easy access by public transport, as well as a partnership with Secure Parking - The Mint- located at 383 Latrobe St. You may book online using Secure-a-Spot.

1-2 SHOWS PER NIGHT

International acts over Thursday to Saturday will often play two shows per night, a dinner show at 7:45pm and supper show at 10.30pm.

Local acts, shows only on for one night and shows from Sunday to Wednesday will usually be one show per night.

Please check our website for up to date information on shows. Both shows are ticketed separately with tickets to be pre-purchased the Bird's Basement website. Tickets are non-transferrable and do not allow you to attend the second show on the same night (however there may be exceptions, see with the venue manager on the night).

TICKET PURCHASE

Tickets are sold directly through our website ticketing system, or you can purchase over the phone by calling 1300 225 299.

Once you've purchased your tickets you will receive them by email immediately. If you prefer to receive them by post or for them to be held at the box office, please call us on 1300 BBJAZZ.

NOTE: if you purchase at the door, we will charge an extra $5 per ticket as we want to encourage you to purchase online or phone.

Our 1300 number is also a support line so if you have any issues please call us during the hours of 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday and 3pm to 9pm on weekends. On public holidays when the venue is closed, so will our support line.

ITALIAN FOOD

Whilst the music is front and centre, Bird's Basement's refinement is extended to the kitchen under the supervision of Italian Head Chef Gigi Bueno. Gigi Bueno prepare delicious Italian dishes from Thursday to Saturday. We serve delicious Italian food and offer a selection of great wines (either bottle or by the glass). You can be sure to enjoy a complete experience. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday you can order from you Beer Wine & Calzone menu.

TIMES

Doors open each night at 6:00pm, with the first concert starting at 7:30pm and finishing at 8:45pm. The venue is completely turned over for the second show with doors re-opening at 9:30pm, supper concert commencing at 10:00pm and finishing at 11:15pm. Venue closes at midnight.
