Cafe Tre Fontane |
Cafe Tre Fontane is a traditional Sicilian Expresso bar in Ivanhoe, serving their own coffee blend, home made Sicilian Donuts/Called Sfinci, also breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Cafe Tre Fontane is now in its third decade of serving coffee to the regulars in Ivanhoe. Brothers, Daniel and Marcello Leone, were inspired to establish their business after a trip to Tre Fontane, a seaside town in south-west Sicily near their father's birthplace of Castelvetrano.
Marcello swapped his spray painting gear for a Faema, and pastry chef Daniel sold his chevy so they could set up in a vacant shop in Upper Heidelberg Road. Cafe Tre Fontane was born.
Combining their parents' corporate knowledge from both side of the family's history in Carlton, Fitzroy and Brunswick, the Leone brothers opened their family cafe in 1997 with a passion to create a convivial local retreat. Many loyal customers who have been with them since the doors opened twenty years ago - as well as a new generation of students and young professionals - would heartily agree.
Chairs, tables and umbrellas on the footpath outside - once an unusual sight in sleepy Ivanhoe - are now a regular fixture and add to the ambience. The menu has grown into a tempting selection of cakes and other Italian fare, and together with their personalised coffee blend, this family business expresses a simple commitment to quality, conviviality and service.
