A purpose built theatre for comedy at 231 Bourke St, Melbourne across two levels, the creative hub presents a diverse program including stand-up comedy, sketch, live podcasts, musical theatre, plays, storytelling and broadcast material.
Comedy Republic is a brand new, unique theatre in the heart of Melbourne purpose built for comedy, by comedians.
Capturing the enthusiasm of a festival all year round, Comedy Republic spotlights Melbourne's best comics, with drop-ins from interstate and overseas (eventually).
The Bar
A floor above, overlooking the hustle of Bourke and Swanston sits our brand new bar. Heroing local distilleries and producers, we've curated abar offering that suits the languid summer heat just as much as the blistering winter cold.
The Theatre
Upstairs at 231 Bourke St sits a 145-seat theatre, purpose-built for comedy. Shows are live in-person and streamed online.
The mid-size theatre is small enough to foster and elevate emerging creatives' work, yet large enough for intimate evenings with Australia's biggest names.
Your Health
The health of patrons, performers and staff is our top priority and we value your assistance in following public health advice at all times.
In accordance with government regulations, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required to enter Comedy Republic.
All staff and performers are likewise fully vaccinated.
GETTING THERE
Boat is probably the only method we wouldn't recommend. Trains to Melbourne Central, Parliament or Flinders Street Station are equidistant. And the Bourke St and Swanston St trams stop right outside our door. There is a taxi rank 20 metres away near the Police Station on Bourke St.
PARKING
At night much of the street parking becomes unlimited on Russell St. There is also a carpark on Royal Lane which is a flat rate after 5pm.
ACCESSIBILITY
Unfortunately, Comedy Republic is not currently a wheelchair accessible venue as we are on the second floor and have no elevator. We're truly sorry - changing this is a top priority. In the meantime, many of our shows will be streamed live online.
