What can I learn at the Eco Living Display Centre?
Living green doesn't mean doing without or spending lots of money. At the Eco Living Display Centre, you can learn about a range of easy lifestyle changes you can make as well as modifications to improve the comfort of your home.
It showcases energy saving features, including solar design, thermal mass, hydronic heating, heat pump technology, solar power, external shading, internal draught proofing, battery storage and ventilation (HRV). You can also view a range of options for insulation, window coverings, double glazing, energy-efficient lighting and appliances.
The centre also showcases water saving features including watertanks, drip-fed irrigation, flow restrictors on taps and shower heads and water-efficient appliances.
Carefully selected products and materials including recycled and up-cycled furniture, original kitchen cabinetry, wool carpet, recycled plastic decking and bamboo flooring. An interior materials board provides extensive information on the main types of interior materials, each with different environmental credentials including life-cycle analysis, which helps visitors choose the most appropriate material for each application.
In the garden, you can learn a range of ways to create beautiful garden for dry conditions from planting indigenous plants to creating wicking beds, a rain garden and no-dig gardens. a food forest and medicinal garden as well as compost bins, a worm farm and other examples of waste reduction on display.
