FareShare | Rescuing Food - Fighting Hunger

FareShare rescues food and helps fight hunger to everyday Melburnian's.

Since 2001 we have given away healthy, nutritious meals to the hungry and the homeless in Victoria, using food donated by businesses. By 'rescuing' food, we mean that it would otherwise be wasted, ending up in landfill. And in saving food from landfill, we also do our bit for the planet by helping to cut methane pollution and reducing demand for new food products.

We are a not-for-profit community organisation operating on a modest budget - thanks to the generosity of philanthropic foundations, businesses and private donors. Through the tremendous passion and commitment of volunteers and staff, we continue to increase the amount of food we rescue and nutritious meals we prepare and give away to charities.

In May 2013 we moved into our wonderful new kitchen - Australia's largest charity kitchen - the funds for which were kindly donated by extraordinarily generous supporters. Our gratitude to them knows no bounds. The new kitchen has increased our capacity substantially and our goal is to now.

GIVE FOOD

Over 100 businesses and organisations provide us with perfectly good food that would otherwise be wasted, ending up in landfill or being converted into pet food.

We are happy to receive all sorts of food. This includes meat that has been ground too fine by a butcher; cheese; fruit and vegies that don't look perfect but are perfectly edible; even packaged items such as fruit juices, breakfast cereals, yoghurts, jams and biscuits. This includes food that is close to its 'best before' date, but it must be safe to consume. We do not accept food past its 'use by' date.

We always need more:

Pastry
Meat
Non-perishable food items
Medium size freezer bags
Bags for vacuum sealing
Medium and large size disposable gloves
