Footscray Community Arts Centre |
Footscray Community Arts Centre (Footscray Arts) works with communities and artists to produce community focused arts activities.
This involves:
-:- developing arts projects;
-:- presenting programs, workshops and events;
-:- supporting the development of community-focussed arts activities by individuals, groups and organisations;
-:- hiring out our spaces as venues for workshops, conferences, festivals and other events.
We are located on the banks of the Maribyrnong River. This river runs through the western region of Melbourne, Australia. We acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri tribe of the Kulin Nation. We offer our respect to the elders of these traditional lands, and through them to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Our facilities are spread across two buildings: Henderson House and The Warehouse. Built in 1872 as a residence and piggery, Henderson House is a bluestone building that is listed on the National Trust Register of Historic Buildings. Spaces in Henderson House include the Basement Theatre and the Gabriel Gallery. With the redevelopment of The Warehouse two new spaces have been created: The Roslyn Smorgon Gallery and a brand new Performance Space. The Happy River Cafe is also based at the Centre.
Footscray Arts has been running since 1974. We have received widespread national recognition for our pioneering support of community arts and the development of multicultural arts in Australia.
