Gisborne Peak Winery |
Situated only 40 minutes out of Melbourne CBD and within 30 minutes of Melbourne Airport Gisborne Peak Winery is ideally placed for the day tripper or for some-one on a return to the airport. Head up the Calder Freeway and exit at the Gisborne South/Sunbury exit and follow the brown tourism signs to Gisborne Peak, just 5 minutes off the freeway.
The vines at Gisborne Peak date back to 1978 when Bob Nixon planted about an acre as a hobby. This has grown to about 14 acres these days and the hobby is now a full time business with the 7-day a week cellar-door managed by his wife Barbara. The winery is located in the macedon ranges Region, cool-climate by definition and clean, crisp wines as a result. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Semillion are the 4 producing grapes on the property and Shiraz and Muscat are sourced from outside the region and sold at the cellar-door.
Food is available every day and on weekends and public holidays (or by prior arrangement for groups) we fire up the wood-fired pizza oven and cook the best pizzas you could dream about. Gourmet is a word that still leaves their description lacking!
Wine tastings are free, but a small charge is applied to coach groups, and bottle prices range from $17.50 to $30. Value for money is assured with quality cool climate wines full of natural flavour and balance.
We have a "low-oak"policy that produces fruitful chardonnays without the interference of too much wood! We make a great unwooded Chardonnay too for the purists.
Come and visit us, we are waiting for you to arrive with a friendly smile and a committment to help you to understand more about cool climate wines before you leave.
Take your memories home in a bottle.
