Hanging Rock Winery & Vineyard |
MACEDON RANGES - VICTORIA
The Hanging Rock Winery was established in 1983 and is located in the Macedon Ranges Wine Region (Australia's coolest grape growing region), just an easy one hour drive from Melbourne.
The property (known as 'Jim Jim') was purchased by John and Ann Ellis in 1982 as a bare block.
Their aim was to make Australia's best sparkling wine. Many who should know, believe that they have achieved this with their acclaimed Macedon NV Brut and Macedon NV Brut L.D. Whilst they decided to build the dream in the Macedon
Ranges they have always had a love and affiliation with Heathcote as a Shiraz growing region.
In 1992 they, and then vineyard co-owner Athol Guy (of ' The Seekers' fame), planted the 'Athol's Paddock' Vineyard to produce the highly acclaimed 'Heathcote Shiraz'. The goal of the Hanging Rock Winery has always been to select premium grapes from areas of Victoria best suited to the particular variety, as a result we have a wide range of wines to suit most styles and tastes.
