Holy Name Anglican Church

Holy Name Anglican Church

We welcome all who gather in friendship to worship God, praying and learning together to deepen our faith in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to care for each other and those in need in the local community and beyond.

In mid 1974, a small group of residents from Vermont South met the regional Bishop, the Right Revd Robert Dann, and Revd Robert Joyce, Vicar of St John's Wantirna South, to discuss the feasibility of establishing a local Anglican Church.

Out of these discussions, regular Sunday worship began on 1 September 1974 in the 'Birralee' Pre-School and Holy Name Church was born.

For over 4 years, worship continued in the Pre-School. On 17 December 1978, Archbishop Robert Dann dedicated Stage 1 of the church building programme the Narthex, where regular worship was held. Numbers of parishioners increased making necessary the building of Stage 2 - the Worship centre in 1981.

Holy Name and St John's Wantirna South remained a joint Parish until 1983 when each church became independent. Holy Name was consecrated on 6 August 2006 by Bishop John Stewart.

In 2005, St John's and Holy Name amalgamated again sharing a joint Vicar. This continued until 2011 when both parishes voted to de-amalgamate thus re-establishing separate parishes.

And so with Grace, Holy Name continues ...
