James Makin Gallery new premises in Collingwood expands his exhibition space and further consolidating James Makin as a leading light in Australia's premier contemporary art scene.
Makin, aged 30 and one of Australia's youngest art dealers, has converted a former 300-square-metre Collingwood warehouse into an inspiring, cutting-edge, light-filled exhibition space comprising two exhibition spaces, allowing for a solo exhibition to concurrently run alongside smaller, curated group shows.
'Younger collectors will be enticed by the aesthetics of the converted warehouse - with its saw-tooth roof enabling lots of natural light to flood the area, as well as high ceilings with exposed beams, and polished concrete floors - which will retain the best aspects of the industrial origins of the building,' explains Makin.
Collingwood is an area fast emerging as Melbourne's most thriving arts precinct and a hub of creativity. Over the past year, four new commercial galleries have also relocated to the area, joining a host of more established galleries.
'We look forward to contributing to the dynamic cultural buzz of the area. Our clientele can expect a busy schedule of events, such as regular talks and educational events, to coincide with the regular curated solo and group exhibitions at James Makin Gallery,' says Makin.
The new James Makin Gallery will maintain its cross-disciplinary focus exhibiting paintings, sculpture and works on paper, as well as encompassing a display of new media works by local artists.
Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday 10am to 5:30pm and Saturday 11am to 5pm
