MCC Hockey |
The Hockey Section of the Melbourne Cricket Club was formed in 1960 with two men's teams entered in the 1961 Men's Melbourne Winter Competition.
MCC Women's teams were formed in 1989 from the Nunawading HC and McKinnon HC combination. MCC Hockey is one of ten sporting sections of the famous Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) - the other nine sports being Cricket, Baseball, Squash, Tennis, Lacrosse, Lawn Bowls, Shooting, Croquet (formed in 2001), and Golf (formed in 2003).
All MCC Sections are proudly known as The Demons.
The 'Melbourne Demons' Australian Rules Football team is an associate of the MCC.
MCC competes at the highest level (State League 1) in both the Women's and Men's Victorian competition. We therefore are proud to have a number of current and past Australian reps (Senior, U/21 & Masters) as well as many State Junior and Senior representatives at the club. Both 2nd XI's compete in Pennant A, the highest 2nd XI club level.
MCC's Home Ground is situated in the grounds of Melbourne High School (MHS), located in the inner Melbourne suburb of South Yarra (see map below). This location is ideal as it is within close proximity to the city centre and easily accessible by train, tram, bus, car and indeed bicycle. South Yarra is a fashionable inner-suburban residential area and is arguably the best entertainment district in Melbourne. A huge range of shops, restaurants, bars, cafes, pubs and nightclubs are all situated within 1km of our ground.
