In September, it was announced the MCC Foundation was exploring the divestment opportunities for the MCC Kew Sports Club following a strategic review of operations which found the property was no longer financially viable in its current form.
Following a competitive and closed tender process arrangement managed by Ernst & Young's Real Estate Advisory Services, the MCC Foundation has now divested the MCC Kew Sports Club to Carey Baptist Grammar School who will take over ownership from March 31, 2020.
Founded in 1923, Carey Baptist Grammar School, is a co-educational, independent, Christian school with approximately 2500 students from Early Learning to Year 12. Carey's vision for the current MCC Kew Sports Club is that the site will become a centre for a wide range of sports and activities, for participants of all abilities, for use by Carey and the wider community.
The MCC Foundation's aim is to support and promote the participation of playing sport and to invest in facilities that benefit its sporting sections, members and the community.
MCC President Michael Happell said, "In making the decision to explore divestment opportunities for MCC Kew Sports Club, the MCC Foundation's primary objective was to ensure the site remained for the use of sporting activities and the benefit of the wider community. We are pleased Carey Baptist Grammar School, who pride themselves on giving their students educational opportunities to become wise, independent and motivated young people, were the successful bidder. Carey was able to share their vision and committed to retaining the site for sporting use and for community use outside of school hours which clearly aligned with our main objective. We know and see daily through our 13 sporting sections, the well-being benefits sport provides for people of all ages and know the Carey students will enjoy the various opportunities, whether that's through physical education or organised sport, from acquiring the MCC Kew Sports Club site."
