Red legs | Dees | Demons
The Melbourne Football Club is the oldest professional football club in the world.
The club has had many significant events influence its history.
1838 - Formation of the Melbourne Cricket Club.
1852 - The MCG is established in Yarra Park (then Richmond Paddock).
1858 - MCC Secretary Tom Wills begins the first formal Australian Rules competition.
1859 - Rules of the Melbourne Football Club are formalised.
Over 185+ years it has naturally accumulated stores of memorabilia and priceless artefacts that need to be made available for public viewing. Whether it is online or in a museum from within our training base, a dedicated recognition of the Melbourne Football Club's past is an important part of club operation.
The club has undertaken a cataloguing exercise of its collections in readiness for the day it has raised enough funds to undertake such a venture.
