The Monash Animated Notation Ensemble (MANE) is an ensemble of staff postgraduate students and alumni that resides at Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music and Performance at Monash University. It focuses exclusively on music that is scored using animated notation. Animated notation can be defined as "a predominately graphic music notation that engages dynamic characteristics on screen media" (Hope 2019).
Established in 2019 the ensemble is directed by Professor Cat Hope and maintains a a flexible instrumentation. In 2020 the ensemble commissioned their first new work awarded to Victorian composer Jaslyn Robertson produced as a video work at the time. This concert sees the live world premiere of this work and other commissions awarded to NSW composer Amanda Cole Victorian composer James Rushford and the 2024 commission yet to be announced.
Other works performed include a new work for double basses and electronics by director Cat Hope and a work commissioned by ensemble member Nicole Canham from Perth composer Sze Tsang.
