Museo Italiano |
Museo Italiano is a permanent exhibition which draws on and displays the records, images and objects from CO.AS.IT.'s Italian Historical Society.
Museo Italiano in Carlton includes Melbourne Exhibition, Resource Centre and Historical Society.
The Italian Historical Society was established in 1980 to collect, preserve and promote the history of Italian immigration to Australia.
In the two decades since its formation, the IHS has grown steadily and today has an extensive collection of photographs, ephemera, letters, documents, official records and newspaper cuttings which relate to Italian migration and settlement in Australia.
Much of the material, which dates from the gold rush to the mass migrations of the 1950s and 1960s, has been donated by Italian migrants and their descendants.
