Rivoli Cinemas opens its doors to a taste of the 1940s

Melbourne loves a rooftop bar, and this September, Rivoli Cinemas is set to open a new offering - nineteenforty.

The name pays homage to the golden age on cinema, back to October 11, 1940 when the heritage-listed venue opened its doors to a screening of 'French Without Tears'. The rooftop bar compliments the gorgeous art-deco architecture with a garden inspired fit out. Offering panoramic views of Camberwell & Hawthorn, the venue is perfect for sipping champagne in summer, or curling up under umbrellas and heaters in the winter.

The space will be decorated with festoon lighting, succulent potted plants and timber cladding. The bespoke drinks menu is a celebration of old-world cocktail culture, with a specially curated list of drinks designed to amplify the setting. For the real gin enthusiasts, a premium G&T experience matches Star of Bombay with tonic water and a selection of botanicals. With a selection of bar food available, nineteenforty is the perfect venue to wander up before or after a movie.

Rivoli Site Manager James Zwack looks forward to introducing a cocktail menu to compliment the Rivoli cinema experience. 'We've always been enamored by the history of the cinema. The rooftop bar seems like the perfect way to invite guests to enjoy the space as much as we do.'

To celebrate the opening, an exclusive VIP launch event will be held on Friday, September 16. Special guests will be welcomed to the bar with one of the signature cocktails, Athena, a fruity concoction of apricot, cloudy apple and lime, with the entertainment sure to please.

nineteenforty is set to become Hawthorn's hidden gem.
