One Small Stop for Man |
Northcote residents were somewhat bemused by the new tram stop recently installed at the corner of High and Separation Streets.
One of the two advertising billboards boasts...

One small step for man.
And one giant leap for Melbourne.
Because our new low floor trams mean more space, a smoother ride and increased comfort for all Melburnians.
Tram 109. You'll love it as much as we do.
Erm...
One seat and two large advertising boards.
Erm...
This is not route 109?
A message appeared shortly after on the other advertising board..
THANKS FOR THE ONE STINGEY SEAT YARRA TRAMS
CANT' HAVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT PATRONS TAKING UP VALUABLE ADVERTISING SPACE, CAN WE?

Perhaps the Yarra Trams sign should have read:
One small seat for man.
And two giant billboards for Melbourne.
Because our new low floor trams mean more space, a smoother ride and increased comfort for Melburnians but only on Route 109.
Tram 109. You'll love it if you ever see one!
We spoke with the elderly gentleman [pictured] waiting for the tram..
"At least the old stop had seating for 3 or 4 people. They probably expect us to sit on the seat over there, referring to a seat nearer the corner, but it has no roof."
"As for the new trams, I have never seen one on this route. Don't all the new trams go to Mont Albert? Yep, 109. Someone on the tram told me we would never see the new trams because they cannot handle the bend on Smith Street Collingwood?"
This article has been forward to Yarra Trams for comment.
