This exhibition showcases a collection of his diverse works , highlighting the legacy of Love and Happiness that Peter left behind through his art. Many pieces on display are also available for purchase.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Peter Accadia was a true artist and a master potter.
He was born in San Marco in Lamis, Puglia, Italy , before migrating to Australia in 1956. His lifelong love for ceramics and fine art started at the age of 13. He completed a diploma in ceramics at RMIT and was an artist in residence at La Trobe University from the 1980s until the early 2010s. Peter's work was the result of 50 years of devotion and creative experimentation, inspired by Japanese ceramic artists. Tools, techniques and natural materials were all sourced from the rugged Australian landscape, reflecting Peter's creativity and character.
He worked in Stoneware, Porcelain and occasionally Raku. He always made his own clay bodies and glazes, constantly innovating in these areas. His Copper red and Celadon wares were striking, and he had a deep affection for Japanese Shino glaze. While Peter's work mainly focused on traditional domestic wares, he also exhibited a more free approach to form. His tall twisted vases were made in sections and skilfully put together. His chess sets were unique, with each piece individually made. Another innovation in Peter's work was his experimentation with Saggar firing, involving firing pieces inside ceramic containers with containing various combustible materials such as shells, paper, wood and even spent grapes to personalise his pieces. He exhibited in Australia and Japan and his work is held in private collections internationally.
