Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit |
The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is home to motor racing events including the MotoGP, World Superbike Championship and the V8 Supercar Series.
Seen in over 200 countries by over 350 million spectators, this is your chance to experience this world renowned venue in the flesh. Whether you go extreme or relax with a latte and lunch there are recreational and leisure facilities galore.
The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was purchased in 1985, and since then, the venue has been extensively remodelled and has hosted numerous prestigious events including rounds of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Superbike World Championship, Shell Australian Touring Car Championship and many other national events.
The Circuit has been the recipient of many significant awards including the 'World Best Motorcycle Grand Prix' in 1998, the venue 'Most Preferred' by the Superbike World Championship Teams and riders in 1997, the 'Best Promoted' Shell Australian Touring Car Championship in 1993 and 1994 and the 'Best Australian Road Racing Championship' rounds in 1995 and 1998. During this time, the Placetac Group have increased in size significantly and now employs in the vicinity of 35 permanent and part time employees.
The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Superbike World Championship have attracted a vast international television audience and the events are watched live in over 120 countries worldwide.
All this increased activity has led to a high degree of awareness of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit amongst visitors to Victoria. As a result, we have found that many international visitors would like the opportunity to access the venue at non-event times. To meet this demand we opened the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Visitor Centre in December 1998 which has become an established international product in the region in its own right. International visitation is currently running at 24 percent of the total attendance and these are drawn predominantly from the FIT market.
Our management team, who are extremely experienced in the conduct of international events has been augmented by specialist staff in the tourism industry to present the Visitor Centre as an international product.
The Visitor Centre already attracts a specialist market from both Europe and Asia and, because of our proximity to the natural attractions of the Penguin Parade and Seal Rocks Victoria, we are an excellent complement to their product.
