The Prom Country Information Centre has Level One Accreditation through the Better Business Program and provides tourism information and services to visitors, tourism operators and the wider local community.
These services include: a central booking service, an extensive range of brochures, local arts and crafts on display, the sale of maps and postcards and professional staff members to assist with all telephone and visitor inquiries.
The Prom Country VIC offers visitors an exclusive Online Booking Service, enabling bookings to be processed instantly. This establishes the Centre as the first VIC east of Melbourne to offer the innovative Bookrite Online Reservation System to our visitors.
The Prom Country Information Centre is the major Information Centre in the South Gippsland region and cooperates with the Phillip Island, Latrobe and Sale Information Centres on a wider regional basis. The Centre is funded and staffed by the South Gippsland Shire Council and the Shire's Tourism Coordinator is directly responsible for its management. The Centre also has a full time Visitor Services Coordinator, two part time Tourism Information Officers and a small number of volunteers.
Outdoor facilities available: the VIC is located adjacent to Coal Creek Heritage Village and offers visitors a spacious lawn and treed area, shade and shelter, picnic tables, free BBQ, children's playground, free drinking water and clean toilets.
In addition to the main office based at Korumburra the Prom Country Information is responsible for overseeing eleven Satellite Information Outlets providing information throughout the Shire. These Satellite Outlets consist of locally made timber brochure racks that provide standard brochure information on the Prom Country region. They are spread evenly on a geographic basis across the Shire in eleven, seven day a week businesses. This initiative is unique to Prom Country and to date has been very successful in improving the quality and accessibility of visitor services provided across the Shire.
The Prom Country Information Centre was awarded the General Tourism Services category at the annual Phillip Island Gippsland Discovery Tourism Awards 2001. The award recognises the high standard of achievements of tourism operators within their region.
