RAAF Museum |
The RAAF Museum is housed at Point Cook, the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force, tells one of Australia's most important aviation stories, that of the second oldest air force in the world.
The RAAF Museum hosts one of the best collections of historical aircraft in the world. Visitors will enjoy a range of exhibitions and learn about the history of the Royal Australian Air Force.
Heritage gallery
The Museum's heritage gallery presents exhibits exploring the stories of our serving personnel from the Australian Flying Corps to the present day.
Featured stories include our Air Force Chaplains, RAAF Medical Service, and the Women's Royal Australian Air Force. We also look in detail at the narratives of our Second World War aviators from the Women's Auxiliary Australian Air Force, to those who served with Fighter, Bomber, and Coastal Commands.
Aircraft galleries
We have several galleries exploring the history of Australian air power.
The Training gallery showcases the evolution of RAAF training from the start of Central Flying School operations at Point Cook in 1914, through the Second World War, to the present.
The Australian Air Power gallery looks at the development of air power in Australia, from props to jet propulsion.
The Strike Hangar (coming soon) explores the RAAF's strike aircraft. From the Cold War's Canberra Bomber, to the supersonic strike power of the F-111, to the most recent retiree the F/A-18 Hornet.
External displays
A number of static aircraft are on display around the Point Cook grounds. Among them are the Lockheed C-130H Hercules A97-011, Lockheed AP-3C Orion A9-751, Bristol Bloodhound missile and launcher, and replica Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII A58-492.
The RAAF Museum is a 25 minute drive from Melbourne along the Princes Freeway. Take the Point Cook Road exit and follow the tourist signs to the Museum. The Museum is approximately 400 metres beyond the entrance to the RAAF Base.
