Residents Against 170 Edward Street, Brunswick East

This is a website for residents who oppose a proposed development of the former Tip Top Bakery site at 170 Edward Street, Brunswick East.

Proposed is a ten-level apartment complex, plus a six-level apartment block (including childcare centre cafes and office space), plus five, four and three-level apartment blocks with 14 home offices. All this in a council-owned side street. The development will dwarf surrounding houses, and dramatically lower the quality of life for existing residents. It will create about 400 apartments and a corresponding increase in cars and overcrowding in already congested streets.

The development proposal is to be voted on by Moreland Council, a local government once know for its environmentally friendly, community oriented style of government. Council has not adequately considered the impact on local residents' lives this development will bring, and does not have laws in place protecting residents from development projects.
