Richmond Theatrette |
The Richmond Theatrette is located at 415 Church Street Richmond, above the Richmond Library.
The theatrette has a capacity of 80 people theatre style and 120 in standing capacity.
The theatrette was built in the 1970s and was a site for local theatrical productions until the 1990s. It was home to The Tombolas (an older persons' theatre group) and a venue for local theatre productions by schools, multicultural groups and young people. Known as the Carringbush Theatrette, the building provided a unique blend of literacy, library and community arts services and was an early example of the 'cultural centres' that are now commonplace.
Risk management issues relating to the stage required the theatre to close in 2004, but it continued to be used as an auditorium and meeting space. It has now been renovated and technical issues have been addressed. It is now fully functional and fully accessible.
Entry to the Theatrette is via Church Street. 415 Church Street Richmond 3121
Melway ref: 44, F11
The Richmond Theatrette is fully wheelchair accessible
