The Royal Women's Hospital is Australia's largest specialist hospital dedicated to improving the health of women of all ages and cultures, and newborn babies.

The Hospital provides clinical expertise and leadership in the areas of maternity services, gynaecology andᅠneonatal care.

A holistic approach to care is fostered at the Hospital and it has an important role to play as an advocate for the women of Victoria, to ensure equity of access and quality health care.

There is a strong commitment to research and education. It is a major teaching hospital with strong affiliations to The University of Melbourne and La Trobe University.

It has a rich and proud 149-year history, founded in 1856 as a place where underprivileged women could give birth to their babies and receive proper medical and nursing attention.

The Hospital will celebrate its 150th anniversary from August 2006 to August 2007.
