Sarah Rhodes: Intimate immensity Sarah Rhodes: Intimate immensity

Sarah Rhodes is the recipient of the 2025 Wai Tang Commissioning Award and will present a new body of work during the 2026 Bowness Photography Prize exhibition season.

Intimate immensity explores how enclosed spaces intensify the inner world.

The exhibition brings together photographic images shaped through darkroom intervention, photograms and a video projection that journeys between subterranean chambers and the surface world.

The darkroom is central to the work: a second chamber where images gathered from the cave are realised, and where photograms extend this process.

The projection space becomes another threshold, where the cave unfolds in time.

Across still and moving image, the exhibition considers whether inner life can ever be separate from the spaces we inhabit.
