Separation Proclamation | Victoria Day 2025

Separation Proclamation | Victoria Day 2025Separation Proclamation | Victoria Day 2025

Friday 14th November 2025

On the 15th November 1850 the proclamation of Victoria's separation from New South Wales arrived from London.

We celebrate Victoria Day on the 1st of July each year, the day Victoria was founded and which was, prior to World War I, a public holiday.

The main focus of the Victoria Day Council is Victoria Day, however, the Victoria Day Council also celebrates the arrival of the news of Victoria's Independence on 15 November 1850.

The Council sponsors the maintenance of the Separation Tree (Royal Botanic Gardens) and an annual re-enactment of Lieutenant Governor Charles La Trobe's reading of the proclamation of separation is held on this date.

Separation Proclamation is held on the closest Friday to November 15th.
