The Block 2015 | Blocktagon

Congratulations to Dean and Shay.

The Blockheads walked away from their auctions with some serious cash burning a hole in their pockets, after all five teams sold their Blocktagon apartments for an enviable profit, but it was Dean and Shay who proved to be the big winners.

The penthouse pair had to wait while two other couples faced the auction gauntlet until their penthouse could go under the hammer and their reserve price for the crowning jewel of The Blocktagon was revealed as $1.675million.

After a tense auction with multiple bidders, the stylish design savvy pair were rewarded when their Scandi penthouse sold for a whopping $2.3m, netting them $655,000 in profit.

'We're just absolutely blown away and can't fathom that's happened, it's a fairy tale,' Dean said.

'Sometimes you just get caught up trying to pay the bills and you can't do those things you really love and enjoy, so I think our winnings might give us the space to do that,' Shay said.

In a serendipitous twist of fate, it was just $15,000 the difference between Dean and Shay taking home the title and second place getters Luke and Ebony - the exact same amount Dean and Shay won in the final challenge and chose to take off their reserve.

But it was the Townsville twosome Kingi and Caro who kicked things off, with their industrial street art-inspired apartment selling for $1.735m, awarding them a profit of $405,000.

Gold Coast mums Suzi and Vonni were the next couple to go under the hammer, selling their luxe apartment for $1.829 million, with the girls pocketing $349,000 in profit between them.

Then it was the young parents in the penthouse, Dean and Shay, who were overjoyed to take home $655,000.

Young reno rookies Whitney and Andy, who announced they had ended their two-year relationship since filming on The Block, were ecstatic when their Blocktagon apartment sold for $1.79m and awarding them $390,000 in winnings.

The nerves were on full display as WA siblings Luke and Ebony stepped up to the auction plate as the last team to go under the hammer and they were the pair most likely to give the leading penthouse couple a run for their money.

But a fairy tale ending for all five couples looked in doubt when Luke and Ebony's auction stalled after only a solitary bid at just $50,000 over their reserve.

After what seemed like an eternity, the action turned up when a bidding war erupted that shot the sale price of their apartment to a huge $2.2m, netting Luke and Ebony a hefty profit of $640,000 in the end.

It was a great final result for the siblings but not enough to steal The Blocktagon crown from deserving winners Dean and Shay.

You'd be forgiven for thinking after last series and the whopping amounts of cash the contestants took home that surely The Block had maxed out in terms of delivering us pure TV gold, but you couldn't be more mistaken.

So far we've only seen a sneak peek promo but we already know that 'The Blocktagon' is going to be one hell of a renovation ride for the five new eager and oh-so green couples.

And here's why.

Keith is back to his Blockinator best

The newbies better watch their backs because the Blockinator is back and there's no more Mister Nice Foreman. We sure hope they know their angle grinders from their circular saws or their niches to their nib walls because the Blockinator will be all over them like tiles on a freshly water-proofed floor.

Big, bold and brave design choices

If you're an avid Blockaholic you know your Scandi style from your classic contemporary because you've seen it done on Block's gone by. This series get ready to have your style senses wowed. The new crop of Blockheads push the design envelope further with gutsy ideas and styles you've never seen before. Who will blow the judges minds with their daring design decisions? Stay tuned.

The 2nd chance siblings are back

Dedicated Blockaholics were devastated when we were forced to wave goodbye to brother and sister duo Luke and Ebony in the last round of the Triple Threat eliminations. The pair were ousted after a comedy of errors saw them deliver an almost-laughable bathroom. But the judges all agreed they had seen something promising in the pair, so they got the call up to come back for more and we couldn't be happier to see them back on our TVs.

Four little numbers - 3141

South Yarra is one of Melbourne's most prestigious and affluent suburbs and the postcode has proven itself to be a happy hunting ground for Blockheads in the past. The Block Triple Threat pulled record-breaking numbers in all four auctions which saw the contestants walk away with a collective $3.165 million in prize money. With six levels and 360-degree views of the city from the heart of South Yarra, hopefully 'The Blocktagon' will be just as lucrative for our lucky couples.

Suzi and Vonni

These fun and flirty single mums certainly aren't like any Blockheads we've seen before. They're best friends who love to laugh and combined with seemingly limited renovation experience, we can't wait to watch these women navigate the perils of a Block build with a refreshing perspective. Bring it on, ladies.

The Block building

We don't envy the epic task Scotty has set out for the couples this time around. Hotel Saville isn't just an ugly eyesore in the middle of Melbourne's high-end suburb of South Yarra, it's a beast that throws down a whole new set of challenges for the Blockheads in the form of awkward building angles, stacked ceilings and a strange pizza-shaped apartment layout.
