Chantelle Ford and Steve O'Donnell won series 8 with the biggest sale in the show's history, pocketing $736,000 in prizemoney after their apartment sold for $2.47 million.
It was the biggest sale price of the four apartments - which were auctioned on Tuesday night, 8th April 2014, $636,000 above the $1,834,000 reserve. The pair won an additional $100,000 for making the biggest profit.
It was a fairytale ending for the Melbourne couple - a milliner and chimney sweep - who had the least renovating experience of the four teams.
Fans vs Faves
Set in Melbourne, the show is pitting new teams of fans against seasoned blockheads in The Block: Fans v Faves.
Returning from the 2012 season is Dale Vine and Brad Cranfield. Dale - a landscaper from Victoria who originally competed with his wife, Sophie, lost to Brad and his wife, Lara. But the men have ditched the missuses and made a boys' only club, hoping to take out the grand prize.
"A hundred percent we'll do better without the girls in tow,"Brad jokes. "Dale can be emotional at times but he's not going to cry like Lara cried!"
Despite not having renovated together before, the guys don't think they'll run into any problems with each other. "The only fights I can see happening between me and Brad are if it was his turn to buy the next slab of beer and he forgot,"says Dale.
But the boys' team will have the winners of 2013's The Block: Sky High to compete against. Twins Alisa and Lysandra return with their notoriously hard-hitting "get stuff done"attitude.
"We want to show Australia that it wasn't a fluke,"Alisa says about returning to The Block. In true twin fashion, Lysandra finishes her sentence: "And that we do have the talent the judges are talking about."
Joining the faves are a whopping four more couples: Chantelle and Steve (Vic); Kyal and Kara (NSW); Chris and Pas (QLD); and Jesse and Kenny (QLD). That's one big block to renovate!
