Seen on a couch dumped in Robb Street, Reservoir, tape not unlike the Police tape you see at a crime scene with the words
ILLEGALLY DUMPED MATERIAL
UNDER INVESTIGATION
City Of Darebin
We called the City Of Darebin and asked to speak to the mayor. A cheery Steven Tsitas answers the phone with good morning, Steven speaking.
Here is what he told us about the investigation..
Dumping is a huge issue in the City Of Darebin. It frustrates residents and council alike. What makes it even more suspicious is the missing cushions. We will leave no stone un-turned in finding out where the couch came from and who dumped it.
We have taken finger prints, and carried out genetic testing on the material. We did a door to door knock of houses in the area, asking residents where they had been and whether they had seen anything. Unfortunately, lie-detector tests had to be carried out on a number of residents.
Local Police have the area under surveillance in case more furniture is dumped on the same corner. Police had been there around the clock for the past 5 days but have yet to see anything out of the ordinary except for a dog relieving itself on the dumped couch. Its owner had been given a warning.
Camera Surveillance footage has been seized from nearby businesses. A second hand car yard, a panel beaters, a motorcycle club/repair shop and a piano shop. We are still reviewing the 200 hours of footage.
Australian Federal Police have told us they had not received any calls about suspicious furniture or illegal couches.
If you know anything that can help City Of Darebin, please call (03) 9470 8888 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
