Waterside Metal Art Studio |
Located on the river edge at the historic Footscray Wharf, Waterside Metal Art Studio provides a safe and inclusive space where people can pursue activities in creative blacksmithing and metal art.
We feel truly blessed, being able to operate from our late 1800's heritage building and are passionate about sharing our love for metal with anyone willing to be seduced ...
The studio was established in 2011 by Steve Phillips (Estebana). Steve has a background in science and discovered the wonderful world of blacksmithing later in life. Uniquely gregarious by nature and enjoying meeting new people, setting up a teaching facility seemed the next logical step to take. Today Waterside offers a wide range of courses and experiences with the help of some of the finest guest teachers from Australia and abroad.
The studio is equipped with ten coke fired forging stations, including anvils, hand tools and leg vices. A power hammer, fly press and belt grinders are also available to assist with the delivery of quality blacksmithing experiences from beginners to advanced.
Lute joined the studio initially in an administrative capacity and is now also focusing on a designer jewellery line called 'Corpus Luteum'.
Both partners are avid hikers and their love for the natural world instills a sense of urgency to look after 'our home' and reducing Waterside's environmental footprint by becoming carbon neutral.
Waterside is a proud anchor member of the RiverEdge Creative Alliance (RECA).
Located along the river, immediately below the Footscray Community Arts Centre.
