WINNER 2007 Melbourne Cup - EFFICIENT (6)

WINNER 2007 Melbourne Cup - EFFICIENT (6)

Efficient became the first Victoria Derby winner since the legendary Phar Lap to come back a year later and claim the Melbourne Cup.

Despite poor recent form, Efficient produced a stunning finish to repel the international challenge of Purple Moon and Mahler.

On a dramatic day at Flemington, three runners - Maybe Better, The Fuzz and Efficient's stablemate Gallic were scratched leaving 21 horses to contest the gruelling 3200m race.

Businessman Lloyd Williams had two horses in the race and as the field began the run for home it looked as if he could win the Cup with Zipping, until Efficient wound up down the outside.
