Living Legends at Woodlands Homestead is a place where people of all ages can relax and enjoy our legends in beautiful surrounds. Bring a picnic basket, or order a Picnic Gift Package from Living Legends. Perhaps you'd prefer to have a delightful traditional Devonshire Tea, get something from the Coffee Cart, or just have some Snacks. You can enjoy it in a dining room that once hosted Burke and Wills.
Where is Woodlands Homestead?
Living Legends is based at Woodlands Homestead in Woodlands Historic Park only 6 minutes north of Melbourne Airport and about 20 km north-west of the Melbourne city centre (Melway Map: 177 Ref: H9). To reach Woodlands Homestead either drive in at the main entrance on Oaklands Road or walk from the Somerton Road picnic area.
Woodlands Homestead is open 7 days a week from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm (except Christmas Day).
How to Get There
Woodlands Historic Park is open to vehicles from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM extending to 6:00 PM at weekends during daylight savings. Pedestrian access is available at all times.
The park is a 20 km drive from the centre of Melbourne and is immediately north of Melbourne Airport. Park entrances are off Somerton Road (Melway ref: 178 C6) and Oaklands Road for Woodlands Homestead (Melway ref: 177 J9) and Providence Road (Melway ref: 178 F10).
Walking tours of Woodlands Historic Park
Starting at the Woodlands Car Park off Providence Road, you will enjoy an scenic walk taking in the historic red gums and string bark tress many over hundreds of years old. Following the footsteps of the local aboriginals who lived and hunted in these regions.
Enjoy the panoramic views from Gellibrand Hill looking out to the City og Melbourne, Port Phillip Bay and Tullamarine Airport. Inspect some of the earliest granite mines which suppled many of Melbiurne's first buildings.
Get a rare glimpse of native wallabies living on the north side of Gellibarnd Hill, visit the ruin of the Dundonald Homestead and Cumberland Homestead. See mobs of kangaroos living in the wild along with kookaburra, wedge tailed eagles, echidna and more. Witness the meanderings of Moonee Ponds Creek and the old quarries before visitnf the restored Woodlands Homestead. Estimated time 3 to 4 hours.
