The A-League is contested by 13 teams: twelve teams located across Australia and Wellington Phoenix from New Zealand.

The A-League is the pinnacle of professional football in Australia, consisting of the elite men's competition.

August 26, 2005 marked a significant day in Australian football history, when the first game of the inaugural Hyundai A-League season kicked-off in Newcastle.

The A-League consists of a Regular Season and a Finals Series (featuring the top six (6) Clubs from the Regular Season), the winner of which will be crowned A-League Champions.
