ARTIST STATEMENT
Thoughts ...
I have once again returned to the figure, feeling I must do so as it is continually on my mind, to once again meld body with tree shapes, which this time, seem to offer a fresh look at an old subject.
Using that illusionistic subliminal blimp that so often pops up, I gradually weave paintings to a conclusive stage, as I manipulate changes on numerous canvasses with semi- lucid wash, that allows the under painting and drawing alterations to show through, and therefore not completely lost.
Introducing and adding unknown consequences seems dangerous at first, but they soon mold themselves to interesting fissures of understanding which often lead to surprises of a different nature. Perhaps it's the unknown circumstances that spur me on, forever seeking the new and different. The want to break away from traditional and conventional recognition invades my mind as I wrestle hovering thoughts towards complete abstraction and back again pushing indefinable material to the forefront. and although it's problematic, it's also fascinatingly enjoyable and frustrating.
Then, suddenly, I'm back where I started. I must have visited this page 1000 times before. However, what's new? is where I have travelled from, how I arrived at where I am now, and where I feel I may be heading. It's all a mystery and a delight, though at times I scream (blue murder) and fall in a heap.
So, am I advancing, or have I been stuck in a lonely cycle forever encircling myself and lost to all that matters.
This body of works is varied and may at first seem awkward, but for those who know my work, and have a decerning eye will be rewarded, for as they navigate the exhibition, they may find (I hope) something altogether different happening.
This mystery is the plasma that runs in my veins, that drives me to carry on, for I know all will eventually reveal itself. I hope!
