Our purpose is to aid children going into foster care and to aid foster care families. Often children are placed quickly into foster care without much more than what they are wearing at the time. We strive to provide them with a few essential items to help with the transition.

Backpacks or nappy bags contain size and gender appropriate contents including essential items (such as toiletries), clothing, pajamas, a torch, blanket and a toy or activity which will belong to the child, and will stay with them should they be relocated.


We help by providing quality backpacks and nappy bags to children aged 0-17 years, entering foster care in Victoria.

We operate solely on donations sought through fundraising, grants and sponsorship. 100% of donations go directly to purchasing necessary backpack items and shipping them to agencies.

B4VK Charity Op Shop

B4VK Charity Op Shop is a fundraising initiative of Backpacks 4 VIC Kids, a registered Australian charity. We provide filled nappy bags and backpacks with essential items to children aged from birth to 17 years old entering out-of-home care or emergency accommodation. We do this entirely based on donations, fundraising and occasional grants.

Our B4VK Charity Op Shop helps us to a) recycle donations that are not suitable for our packs, b) generate income to pay for our premises and c) connect strongly with our local Community through volunteering and support.

There are many reasons why a child needs to be relocated to a safer place but in most cases, it is due to abuse, and children are quickly removed without time for them to grab their favourite teddy bear or anything else. Children often arrive at secure facilities, foster homes or a Child Protection office without much more than the clothes they are wearing.

Our backpacks include new undies, socks and toiletries, 2 outfits of clothing, sleepwear, stationery, a torch, soft toy and blankie, tissues and a range of additional items that we call 'extra love'. The bags and backpacks that we provide to children remain the belongings of the recipients, and are distributed through Foster and Kinship care agencies, Department of Health and Human Services, Victoria Police and emergency accommodation facilities.
Shopping at our B4VK Charity Op Shop helps us to provide necessary relief to children experiencing relocation.
