Bar Tini |
The MoVida team is expanding its Hosier Lane empire, turning one of Melbourne's original laneway bars, Misty, into Bar Tini.
Bar Tini is based on the Spanish bodega - a neighbourhood shop supplying locals with wine and food to eat in or to go. Named after Spain's answer to the martini, when sherry replaces vermouth, Bar Tini joins MoVida, which opened in 2004, and MoVida Next Door (2008).
It will serve simple snacks such as montaditos and mollete (Spanish sandwiches), charcuterie, cheese and canned fish until the wee hours. Earlier in the evening, chef Ewen Crawford will chalk a rotating list of slightly more complex dishes on the blackboard - gooey baked viejo maestro sheep's milk cheese, prawns or mussels splashed with sherry and cooked on the plancha, a braised dish or rota vieja, the type of home-style croquette kids grow up eating in Spain.
In early 2018, when their packaged liquor licence comes through, they'll add a bottle shop to the ground floor bar, selling their own imported wines and beers, alongside the deli items.
Open Sun-Thu 5pm-1 am; Fri-Sat 5pm-3 am.
