Bookworms in Brunswick and surrounding suburbs now have a new way to expand their reading repertoire with the launch of The Book Nook at Barkly Square Shopping Centre.

Created as a mobile community book exchange, The Book Nook allows you to find books you want to read, as well as pass on pre-loved books for others to enjoy - making it convenient, environmentally friendly and free to join.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the books onsite in an especially curated and relaxing environment, or alternatively take the book with you for enjoyment at home. There will be an ongoing roster of community activities surrounding The Book Nook ensuring there's something for everyone.

The Book Nook will also be supported with an online book club where you can share book reviews with fellow book lovers. Reviews are rewarded with points that can be exchanged for a range of prizes from Barkly Square ranging from cook books to picnic hampers.

Barkly Square Marketing Coordinator Amy Boston!said the idea progressed naturally with feedback and requests from customers and retailers.

'The Book Nook selection kicked off with a bulk purchase made from The Salvation Army to ensure we minimised wastage, considered the environment and contributed to efforts made in our local community,' she said.

'We know people in our local community are tech-savvy, with a penchant for reading and sharing their love of books. With this in mind we developed a traditional method with hand- written review cards inside the books, as well as an online method.

'The idea of The Book Nook is that it will grow and develop in line with the literary tastes of its members. The online component will only enhance the community feel with people able to engage in conversations through their reviews.

'Most of us have shelves of books that we've read and would probably love to hand onto someone else. This way you can share books you've loved, and access books that others want to share with you.

'Simply register the books you have online and also the books you're looking for - who knows, one of your fellow members might be able to pass their copy onto you.'

The Barkly Square Book Nook will be launched to the public on Saturday 16th January with free light refreshments, live music and activities for children.
