Berth Restaurant |
The opening of the new Harbour Town lured us to the Docklands area and also gave us an excuse to try one of the restaurants along the beautiful New Quay Promenade.
Berth is a huge two storey space that boasts floor to ceiling windows, offering uninterrupted views of the city, bay and Bolte Bridge. Their menu serves Mediterranean and Modern Australian cuisine.
Downstairs is a huge open area that also incorporates some outdoor decking. Upstairs is called The View Room and is promoted for use for your private functions no matter how large or small because areas can be sectioned off for privacy.
Staff are incredibly friendly and efficient and the food was served quickly. So it is up to you whether you want a long lingering lunch or a quick fix.
It's all about sharing at Berth. They immediately presumed we were going to share and placed a silver stand on the table for the plates. Fortunately for me, my partner doesn't like oysters - AND I don't like sharing them.
For my starter I opted for half a dozen natural oysters that were served with 3 sauces - a red wine shallot dressing, a seafood sauce and a balsamic reduction ($16). They were presented well and were incredibly fresh. The other starter was saffron prawns with spicy chorizo sausage and cherry tomatoes on a herb infused risotto cake ($19). My partner said this was really delicious and indeed it was (yes HE shares). This dish was quite a large serving and could easily satisfy you for your main meal.
We followed our starter with salads. The first was a warm calamari salad served on a bed of rocket with lemon and garlic dressing ($16). The calamari was incredibly tender and the dressing very tasty. It may have worked better on a bed of cos rather than the overpowering rocket. I had salad with smoked salmon served on spinach with potato, green beans, hard boiled egg, tomatoes and olives with a lemon dressing ($17). It was the perfect mix of ingredients, very light and tasty and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Prices are very reasonable considering the location and style of this restaurant. All mains are under $20 and their twice cooked half duck is reportedly their speciality.
Berth offer a comprehensive selection of drinks on their menu including red and white wines, cocktails, bottled beers and champagne.
The restaurant is now open for breakfast Monday to Friday from 7.30am and from 9.00am on Saturday and Sunday. They actually serve an all day breakfast menu till 5pm.
