In December 2013, the COMMENTS section was removed from the OnlyMelbourne web site.
Comments were introduced to provide readers with a platform where they could discuss, comment and debate.
What resulted was largely negative, un-informative and biased commentary that added little.

Don't get us wrong, there is a place for reviews like those found on web sites like UrbanSpoon (now Zomato), but we believe more checks and balances are required to present a better balanced, more accountable system.
The current system is wide open to abuse and leans towards negative, critical commentary that has far-reaching consequences. A start may be that comments are linked to a Facebook profile so that the writer is known and accountable.
We will not be surprised in the future to see web site owners taken to court to defend unknown faceless readers whose comments have resulted in distress, defamation along with lost business and employment.
