Creating together: The Art of Still Life

What happens when we look at the same collection of everyday objects through the eyes of an Impressionist, a Cubist, an Abstract artist or a Pop artist?

Across four Saturdays in November, the program offers participants the opportunity to draw and paint from carefully curated still life arrangements while exploring the artistic approaches of four influential art movements: Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Abstraction and Pop Art.

Designed as a masterclass experience, each session combines expert instruction, practical art making, demonstrations and art history discussions, enabling participants to deepen their understanding of artistic practice while producing their own finished works. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with a range of materials, techniques and approaches while exploring new ways of interpreting still life. Suitable for both beginners and experienced artists, the program includes all art materials as well as tea and coffee in a supportive studio environment.

With more than 20 years of experience as a practising visual artist and tertiary art educator, Wilson believes that making art in a collaborative and supportive environment can be both rewarding and transformative.

"Creating art encourages us to slow down, observe more carefully, and discover new perspectives on the world around us", Wilson said.

"Through this series, I hope participants enjoy the process of experimentation, discover new perspectives on familiar subjects, and leave with a deeper appreciation of both art history and contemporary art making".

This is a relaxed and generous studio environment to slow down, look closely and make art in the company of others.
