The ConEast Group consortium that operates EastLink announces plans to move into the hotel industry by building hotels on its road network.

The consortium is expanding it's portfolio and looking to open hotels across Australia.

So far specific sites have not been identified other than a hotel on Eastlink and no planning applications lodged.

ConEast Group director Craig Bodden said: 'The hotel market continues to go from strength to strength in Australia, boosted by ever more cost conscious businesses looking to reduce travel costs and the growth in independent leisure travel.

'To meet this growing demand, we have started the search to find suitable sites across Australia, where we can build new hotels on our road network.

'This includes EastLink, which is particularly exciting as it would be our first ConEast Group hotel."

'This expansion, together with the $1 billion we have already invested in our road network in Australia, will help continue the ongoing transformation of ConEast Group into a high quality, low cost brand for both business and leisure travellers.'

The company said the expansion plans had the potential to create 8,000 new jobs.

Developer Horizon will be behind the new hotel which will occupy nine levels with a design that incorporates elements of futuristic settings, with each floor distinguishable by its own individual aesthetic.

The lobby will be decorated with futureristic art, feature walls, lounge seating and open fire places. Guests and residents will enjoy a 25 metre glass-backed indoor lap pool and spa with its own lounge area with food and drinks service.

CEO Yan Bang said EastLink Hotel would bring the next level of sophistication to the ConEast Group brand in a series of stunning new luxury lifestyle hotels set to open in the future.

'Our hotels are strategically located on motorways which will offer access to local experiences for guests and locals to eat, see, shop and play.

When asked about HOTEL, the artwork on Eastlink designed by Callum Morton, she giggled saying "maybe I'm an April Fool".
