theinnernorth.com.au says
Starting on Saturday 19th of June, a pop-up gallery - focused on the creations of artists all connected to the Lithuanian community - will open its doors at the Lithuanian Club on Errol Street, in the heart of the North Melbourne shops.
Min Simankevicius, photographer extraordinaire and the mind behind the pop-up has been part of the art scene for over three decades. With the help of fellow artists and co-hosts Brigita La, Melisa Savickas, Raymond Vysniauskas, Andrius Balnionis and Julija Simas, who have all been active in Melbourne's thriving artist community, the gallery will showcase fine works from across thirteen incredible talents.
The Lithuanian Club is supporting the gallery along with providing the space for the pop-up. The club is a staple among North Melbourne and the Lithuanian community and has played host to various events throughout the years, involved with culture and art.
All artists, like Min and Brigita, are of descent and have strong connections to their heritage, building a core interaction among creatives and thinkers alike, and bringing to the foreground the uniqueness and rich tapestry of a culture steeped in history.
The set-up is a predominantly white space that was once the Lithuanian restaurant. Canvases, prints, sculptures, digital art, photography and more hang on white walls, black partitions and bartop tables.
The Club will house the gallery for the next four weeks, but Min hopes that this will be the start of a new seasonal pop-up. Something that can bring attention, through a cultural lens of incredible work, to the broader public. Bringing awareness to a vibrant history, people, and talent behind the pieces.
The art will all be available for purchase, the doors will open on the 19th of June, and there will be an official reception on the 3rd of July.
The list of artists who will be represented at the gallery are:
| Min Simankevicius
| Brigita La
| Luka Va
| Vismante Cai
| Andrius Balnionis
| Melisa Savickas
| Andrius Lipsys
| Antony Alekna
| Faustas Sadauskas
| Ray Vysniauskas
| Cinda Manins
It is an incredible collection. A wide variety of views, characters, and philosophies. We urge any and all to take a wander through the Errol Street Gallery and support the artists that make Melbourne the cultural and creative centre of Australia.
