Electric Scooter - Rent.. how to!

eScooters are now banned in Melbourne CBD. In August 2024, the City of Melbourne banned electric scooter rentals, citing safety concerns following hundreds of complaints and accident reports as the reason for the move.

Melbourne City Council ended contracts with its two e-scooter operators, Lime and Neuron, giving them 30 days' notice to remove their vehicles.

Shortly after, Jacinta Allan (Premier of Victoria) said that the state may intervene in response to the city's decision. Time will tell.

Melbourne isn't the only city to ban e-scooters, other cities that have banned e-scooters includes Paris, Copenhagen (banned 2020, reintroduced 2021 with strict new rules, Barcelona London (privately owned) and Rome.

e-scooters are still available in the City of Yarra and City of Port Phillip

eScooter hire is an easy and economical way of getting around, jump on and away you go!

In 2023, there are two companies participating in a trial of 1,500 e-scooters, Lime and Neuron. The lime scooters are white with green accents, and the Neuron are bright orange.

How to rent!

To start scooting, you need to download the Lime app or the Neuron app. We have both. When you find a scooter, scan the QR code with the in-app scanner.

If the scooter is available and charged, it will then unhook the helmet and you are on your way. You can use the apps to find available scooters nearby, and you can reserve one for 15 minutes until you get there.

Both apps charge $1 to get them started and 45 cents per minute, or you can rent them for a day for $15. You can ride them anywhere in the municipalities of Yarra or Port Phillip, but the power will shut off if they go outside of those council areas.

Lime (Green)

Neuron (Orange)

Heads Up

All that glitters is not green or orange!.. The dangers and risks e-scooters pose to both pedestrians and users themselves has seen a considerable rise in injuries to both riders and pedestrians. Many riders have been seen riding on footpaths and without helmets, both illegal.
