FAD Gallery Bar |
Gallery Bar, three levels in the heart of Chinatown.
FAD Gallery has been one of Melbourne's iconic art gallery venues and bars since 1995, presenting regular art exhibitions, comedy nights, DJs, private parties and events.
The bar itself offers a range of local and imported beers, wine, spirits and coffee!
By the way admission is free of charge, every day, all day.
Journey down Corrs lane, a small cobblestoned laneway and you will find a unique piece of Melbourne nightlife. In a city full of trendy bars which those in the know skip from in a fickle quest to be seen, Fad Gallery is just a place to be yourself.
Sink into the club chairs or lounge on the unusual mix of furniture, the style is one that was made famous by the speakeasies of the 1920's. Fad is the place to sit and chat or mingle with the locals and of course Fad Gallery's director Jonathan Halliday has many a colourful story.
With its eclectic mix of people, who one cares what you do for a living or how you dress. Conversation can range from art to humanity, trash and profanity and of course there is music and art.
Fad Gallery exhibits regularly, the walls are full of paintings, photographs and other art forms. Exhibitions have been from the well know to the obscure. Over the past Fad Gallery has shown works from Peter Lesis, David Sterry, Kristian Shaw, Leigh Chiller, Peter Kennedy, Josh Lord, Ian Lawrence, Emma Keep, Donna McGree, Travis De Jock, Michall Faircloth, Jeff Bushy, Susie McFadyen, Rai Banda, Kylie Hamill, The Wilderness Society, Regan Tamanni, The International Stockiest, RMIT, Photographic Imaging Centre, etc etc.
Each exhibition is accompanied by an opening night, which can range from sedate to a wild party depending upon the exhibition. Fad Gallery sends out regular emails of what is on.
Music is another focus for Fad Gallery. During the week, a mix of music that complements the lay back atmosphere is juggled behind the bar. Patrons can even request tunes to suit their mood from a large CD collection Fad has complied over the years.
Once a month the house band "the Johnny Warhols"belts out rock over the ages. From Rolling Stones, Beatles to songs from the 80's, these guys enjoy themselves as much as the patrons. There is no cover charge and the night is attracting a strong following.
Fad also plays host to many different functions. The main bar has been the venue for film wrap parties, birthdays, product launches and just plain playing. The top floor is a unique room perfect for a large dinner or a smaller party. Facilities include fully maintained kitchen, dining table to seat eighteen and music facilities.
As far as unique goes Fad has a good measure of this magic.
