The Fairfax Studio, Arts Centre Melbourne's versatile, intimate 376-seat theatre, offers you the chance to get 'up close and personal' with productions from our resident companies and a variety of contemporary works by presenters from Australia and around the world.
Over the 30 years since it opened with the Playbox Theatre Company's production of A Stretch of the Imagination, the Fairfax Studio has grown from a space designed specifically for drama to one that hosts all genres of performing arts.
Comfortably cocooned in this cozy venue, you will see leading theatre productions from the likes of the Melbourne Theatre Company, one of one of our resident companies, to experimental works, cabaret and everything in between.
The theatre is named after George Fairfax, AM, General Manager of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust (1980-89), and a notable actor and director of Melbourne's theatre scene.
The Fairfax Studio is located on level 3 of the Theatres Building [under the Spire].
Entry is via level 5.
