Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards 2009 |
Surprise surprise, Sydney based publication Gourmet Traveller announce 9 three-star rated restaurants in Sydney and only 1 in Melbourne.
Sydney's Quay restaurant has been named Restaurant of the Year, the highest accolade for any Australian restaurant, for the second consecutive year at the Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards.
The Awards, announced at an exclusive ceremony last night at Rockpool Bar & Grill, Sydney, are the hottest ticket in the dining calendar, and were attended by the cream of the food scene.
Quay chef Peter Gilmore and his team once again emerged victorious from a fiercely competitive field of more than 400 establishments in the new edition of the Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide, the country's only national restaurant guide.
The Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards, presented in association with SIGNÉ, the boutique drinks division of Pernod Ricard Australia, set the benchmark for quality food, drink and dining. They are announced each year in conjunction with the release of the Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Guide.
Anthea Loucas, editor of Australian Gourmet Traveller, said: 'It looks like lightning really can strike twice. Since we named Quay Australia's number-one restaurant at last year's awards, it's gone from strength to strength, and is now recognised not only as a local leader but as one of the great restaurants of the world. It's a reflection of just how far dining in Australia has come, and it's something we're very proud to foster and celebrate in Gourmet Traveller.'
